Death upon exiting the end through the fountain portal

Right after defeating the Ender dragon with my friends I exited the end through the fountain portal and I was fine but then I went back into the end to collect the egg. I collected it and jumped through the portal again only to see that I died from fall damage and I pressed respawn .Next I was left on a red screen saying generating world. I then quit Minecraft and reopened it and loaded in to be at my bed in the stronghold but my loot including the EGG was gone. Not in the end either.So now no one can exit the end without dying and their loot vanishing!!!!!
