This bug actually happened while I was playing with my sister; When you are invisible with effects off, and you use a spyglass, the spyglass does nothing on your screen, but others see the spyglass sliding down whilst spinning out of controller until it hits a block. Unfortunately, I do not have a screenshot, but this can recreated by giving yourself a spyglass and invisibility with particle effects off.
