When you enter a Realm, within 20 seconds of being inside, if you put a block it does not appear neither the particles nor the sound "clear indicative of lag". If you have another object placed, "for example the campfire" its particles do continue to work, but the blocks that you place and remove do not.
Also the inventory of when you press the Y or the X does not open.
