I regularly make backups of my data and play the game, but it is impossible to anticipate a serious bug like this one in advance, and I find the system's inability to avoid problems like this one problematic.
I feel that if the version of the game is different from the last time you played it, you need to make a new copy of the data or ask the user for confirmation.
(A warning message is not enough.)
I would like to see improvements to the system so that users can play the game with peace of mind, even if it is a beta version.
I would recommend that you not play in the beta, especially with any valuable worlds.
Beta versions are generally much less reliable than release versions.
