because you logged in to XBOX live and REALMS will not let you till the beta test EXPIRES

I had the same thing happen to me. I click on a link through mcpe relams and logged into my microsoft account and it says you can change your name there. I had a crazy name given to me . But now its MinerGirl98. Just go to Microsoft and go under gamed and apps I think?,You should be able to change it there.

You can only change your gamer tag in XBox Live, because you are using this service to log in and identify yourself.

Yes exactly what she said. You login through Xbox live. I changed my name on Microsoft's website for gaming though.
