My animals kept despawning mostly when I was neer them. They were mostly tammed horses but I think maybe others too. They were all with name tags.
Edit: Also Id like to put that I did log out neer the horses and I was on multiplayer for the one confirmed time and both people had tamed the horses. I think it did happen once on single player though.

Villagers I put jobs with mending on all Despawned an entire village of “people” DESPAWNED, with a tamed dog
