Can't rename items in an anvil on realms server

I am on my friend's Realms server, and when I type a new name for an item, and nothing appears in the slot to the right and there is still a red x over the arrow. I have 20 xp levels, and i am still able to combine enchanted items, but the game doesn't react when i type a new name. Even when i type a new name in the slot while combining items, the resulting combination still doesn't have the updated name.

I wanted to see if this was related to multiplayer since i looked it up and saw several reports of a similar bug that were unable to be reproduced, so I tried it in a singleplayer world of mine and the item renamed normally, so it only seems to happen in multiplayer, or maybe specifically when you aren't the owner of the server. Upon returning to the server, the bug was still present.

Just after typing that, i tried to re-enter the server to get a screenshot, but it failed to connect. I tried again and was able to connect, but i was unable to reproduce the bug as the anvil was now working properly. Even after restarting my game, I didn't encounter the bug again.

I'm not sure if this is worth posting since the bug seems to have resolved itself, but i already typed it up so i'm posting this just in case it's actually more common than it appears.

I've encountered the bug again, i was able to screenshot it. I've been playing without closing the game for around 4 hours, I'm not sure if that is related.
