A brown panda spawned next to my base so I put fences around it leaving it in a 2x2 area, I then went about 50 blocks away to get some bamboo and I can back to find it gone

Did you interact with the panda in some way, such as feeding or nametagging it?
Naturally-generated mobs will despawn when you move far enough away unless they are made "persistent".

I didn’t interact with it but I had it trapped and I also have other mobs trapped in a larger area and they haven’t despawned even when I went over 1,000 blocks away
