Realm File Size is MASSIVE

We started a Bedrock Realm on Dec 12 with a fresh seed, on Dec 24th, the realms file size is already at 1.2GB.
Now, March 13th, the realms file size is at 3.3GB. We tested some trimming programs, removed the data for maps, the end, the nether and the overworld. The only thing that made ANY difference, is when we trimmed the overworld chunks.
Can someone tell me WHY our realms file is so large?? I feel like we were set up for failure and I don't want to lose all the progress we've made.

The size of the world primarily depends on the number of generated chunks. With multiple players on an unbounded world, this can very easily produce very large world files. Often, the world owners will declare a build limit for worlds and occasionally trim off the area outside that to reduce world size.
