Why is marking this issue as resolved the solution? Surely that is absolutely the wrong thing to do. Just close the ticket. The resolved status is clearly being used too much and the statistics on this site are completely inaccurate, and do not reflect an accurate representation of how cases are actually being fixed. If the bug being reported is not fixed and is a duplicate report, close the ticket, don't resolve it. Misleading information, bad statistics.
Something similar to this also happened to me while I was building a bridge over a big hole. I didn't die, as I had an Elytra, but I almost died. Can confirm this does happen.
