Windows 10 edition LAN game issue

A similar issue to this seemed to have been reported for the kindle fire version and marked as resolved.

I am having this issue with minecraft windows 10 edition too.

Getting this message on two seperate Win10 laptops when trying to join a game on the LAN they are connected to. iOS and Android devicesnconnect fine on the same network.

Can see the server fine, just wont let me connect.
Used to work until a recent update

Issue isn't the network, no packet loss and other services work.

I did a bit more research and it is actually an issue with the Win10 version. Basically the network you are connected to needs to have an a working internet connection.

I added a second wifi adapter that connected to a network with an internet connection and it then allowed the PC to join the server running on the original network which doesn't connect to the internet.

(The laptop was simultaneously on both) Once connected, the traffic was routed through the correct interface to the local server. Upon disconnecting the internet enabled wifi network, the local connection to the server died too.

This behavior isn't present on Android or iOS. Both will happily connect to a wifi network and let you play multiplayer without that network being connected to the internet.

no problem. i use kindle fire and every thing's fine

I have the same issue. I took an old wireless router to my mother-in-laws to play with my son, iOS vs Windows 10. She doesn't have internet, but now v0.15.1 on windows 10 pops a message when opening world, "you must be connected by WiFi to play with your friends".

Try disabling the xbox live sign in by going to options and clicking sign out. Do that on all devices trying to play LAN without Internet.

@rplatham, I see that at the bottom of page 1 of options for MCPE on iOS, but Windows 10 has broadcast to Xbox live and use cellular data at that spot. At the top of the page, where the iOS version has change name, Windows 10 has change gamertag and manage Xbox options. Both of which require internet connectivity to access. When online, manage Xbox options will let me sign out, but MCPE displays a sign in dialog stating please sign in with your Xbox live account to play with friends, earn gamerscore and achievements. Since there's only one button that says sign in and no cancel, I'm kind of stuck. Thanks for putting forth the effort and thinking about it. Very prompt, but it won't work for me.

Yea i don't see an option to sign out that doesn't just immediately require me to sign back in.

I tried toggling things like broadcast to xbox live and use cellular data, but none of them helped.

Interestingly this is similar behavior to what happens on Android when you try to play with others using mobile hotspot. Basically since the last update, the one whose phone is creating the hotspot will give the same error message, even though it can see the server, meanwhile all devices connecting to the hotspot can play fine.

Stephen, we played tonight using my iPhone 6 as a mobile hotspot. It worked with no problems.

I just had a friend enable personal hotspot on an iPhone 5s, IOS 9.3.2 , mcpe 0.15.0.

He started minecraft to host server and got the same message about needing to be connected to wifi.

So playing around with it a bit it seems that enabling "use cellular data" on Android devices allows the person hosting the hotspot to join a server hosted by one lf the hotspot clients. It still doesn't allow the user hosting the hotspot to also host the server on Android. (It seems that the celular data option isn't there on iOS)

I am able to connect using Windows 10 Beta if the host is my tablet (Android), but the tablet (Android) is not able to connect if the host is Windows 10 Beta. MCPE 0.15.6 on both Windows 10 Beta and MCPE.

Please reply and update affected versions if you're still able to reproduce this issue.
