Save recovery is impossible when the system UI hides the Android/data folder from file selection

After importing saves from my PC to my Android 12 phone to the default save folder and playing for a short while, the game then wants me to move the saves elsewhere and required me to specify the path to the Minecraft worlds folder. This folder cannot be selected because the file selection UI does not display the Android/data folder, where the app and it's data (including the saves) resides. Copying the whole com.mojang.minecraftpe folder elsewhere and importing data from the new copy yields an copy error.
