Started playing a family world (three players). All on iOS same OS and App version, all with our own Microsoft accounts. I'm the host. My son frequently gets the error message "Cannot join world the account you are signed in to is currently playing in this world on a different device." He would receive the error regardless of the way we terminate the game "Save and Quit," "Close App," "Host Save and Quit," "Host Close App."
Son is not logged into another device. We're all on the same WiFi. We've gone through all of the troubleshooting steps with tech support and more. Son CAN connect to any other world via LAN with no problems, but CANNOT connect to our "Family" world. Wife has no problems joining any worlds. We can also join all worlds that son HOSTS.
After my last troubleshooting stint I did this:
Settings > Creator > Delete Old Logs, all users
Settings > Profile > Sign out of your Microsoft account, all users
Settings > Profile > Clear Account Sign in Data, all users
Settings > Creator > Delete Old Logs, all users, again
Uninstall Minecraft, son's iPad
Factory restore iPad, son's iPad
Reinstall Minecraft, son's iPad
Login to Microsoft account, first son, then us
Start Minecraft world, from Host
Join world (via LAN), wife, then son
He connected, but the next time he played he got the error "Cannot join world the account you are signed in to is currently playing in this world on a different device." again CAN still connect to all other LAN games.
Repeated all steps EXCEPT for:
Factory restore iPad, son's iPad
Still receives same error, and CAN still connect to all other LAN games.
I created a world copy of "Family" world and he CANNOT connect to either "Family" or "Copy of Family" world.
I suspect something is amiss in one of the Minecraft world files.
Please advise, it's hard to explain to a 4-year-old these things and causes very bad days. :/

Is your son's account a child account associated with your parent account?
Yes, and parental consent settings have been configured following the URL below, and we're all friends.
If your wife hosts a world can your son join that, either before or after you do?
Yes
If your son joins before your wife does it work?
Son is unable to join at all presently. However, he would normally join after I start the world and my wife would join a bit later. It's rare that she joined before him, until after he was no longer able to join. One of the times I was able to somehow fix it for a session and she was already in the game.
Also, if I list all players, he is not listed.
If you create and host a brand-new world, is your son able to join that?
Yes, and he can access pre-existing games.
If so, does that work just once, or every time?
Every time. We have not had an issue with joining other worlds; only our fun Family Survival world.
Does he have a skin? If so, if its not his normal one, then thats the problem, not the skin, its something about the account, i have a skin and sometimes i cant join worlds, but i had an alex skin when i couldnt, when i had my original, i could easily, but im a seitch user so idk
Thanks, Ooofboiz, that seems to be exactly the bug. I changed from the Alex skin to Steve and he could join the game again.
Before your response, I decided to try the world in Minecraft Realms. He was able to join the Realm with the Alex skin without incident.
