I’ve noticed performance issues for the past couple of days and only just noticed that they are caused by using a map. I am playing on the Nintendo Switch version of the game.
To recreate this bug you can pull out any active map and then break a block or observe a mob’s behavior. You can place it in your main hand or your off-hand and the result will be the same. The block will take longer than it should to break, the sound will lag, and the drop will take a long time to move into your inventory. If you observe a mob, it will move and stop repeatedly instead of moving and behaving as it normally would. When you remove the map from your hand, the game’s performance returns to normal.
My expected results when using a map are that the game should perform normally, and I can still use my map effectively. Unfortunately, with this bug it can be a little unpleasant to use a map as it lags pretty badly.
In the attached video you can see the cow’s normal behavior when the map is in the inventory, then after the map is placed into the off-hand you can see the cow begin to move unevenly and lag.

I also noticed that there is some lag when eating food. The hunger bar will fill and empty very quickly and eventually fill after a few tries of this animation. The mobs still lag when bobbing in water. The drops from blocks float midair before coming to the ground, and the day cycle reverses occasionally, making the day longer and potentially affecting the day/night cycle.
