On pe, when have the variant of the menu with the blocks on one side and your inventory on the other, taping a block in your inventory will highlight a box around it, same as usual. When tapping a random block in the blocks menu with the inventory block still highlighted, instead of getting rid of the block from your inventory, it replaces it with whatever block you tapped on in the blocks menu.
