I have been using boats to transport villagers from a breeder to a trading hall and when I press the exit button it will hit behind me. If I stop the boat and press the exit boat button with a mob in the boat with me it will hit them as I exit causing them damage. Alternatively if there are doors behind me when I press the exit boat button they will open/close the door behind me rather than hitting the mob in the boat with me.
