MCPE-166377

Directional placement fails for certain blocks

Possibly related to MCPE-166376 but filed separately just in case.

Normally, when placing blocks by holding down the mouse button, the placement direction becomes "locked" in the direction of the second block placed, making it easy to place blocks in a straight line.

However, for certain types of blocks, this does not work at all, and blocks are simply placed wherever the cursor is pointed regardless of direction.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Attempt to place a straight line of any of the affected block types by holding down the mouse and moving in the desired direction.

Expected: Blocks placed in straight line.

Actual: Blocks placed all over the place.

Observed with at least the following types of blocks (there are certainly others):

  • String

  • Carpet

  • Glass Panes

  • Chain

The pattern seems to be (but not confirmed) blocks that do not take up the entire block volume.

Also, apologies, it doesn't happen with iron bars. Original description updated.

Glass panes and carpets do not appear to be affected anymore.
