[MCPE-173405] After update 1.20.12 cannot join friends worlds

Since update 1.20.12, me and my friend have been unable to join each other's MC Bedrock worlds on Windows.
The screen hangs on "Connecting to multiplayer game..." until eventually failing and the connection closing.
Before the update, we were able to join each other fine.
We have both uninstalled and reinstalled the game and still no fix...
