Game Crashes on iPad if you play with Internet on in V1.20.13

I also have this bug, and it is related to my Microsoft account. If I am signed in, it crashes. If I’m not signed in it, then Minecraft works perfectly fine. This has been happening for a few weeks now for me, and before then, it would crash maybe 75-80% of the time.

On further reading the comments, I think that this is caused by the marketplace, not Microsoft accounts. The Microsoft account is needed to connect to the marketplace, which is why when signed out Minecraft didn’t crash. This bug is probably directly related to the marketplace. The marketplace graphics also don’t load

Same issue.  Crashes when marketplace tries to connect.  Only able to play when disconnected from the internet.  Minecraft 1.20.13, iOS 16.6, 9th gen iPad, 28GB storage available.  Tried restart and uninstall/reinstall, didn't work.  No issues when playing on my phone. 

Any update on a fix for this major game breaking issue? It’s still very much broken. 

I don't have this problem. Does your iOS version is iOS 17 or above? iOS 17 has some bugs there!

@JYN2018X as others and myself have noted most of us are running iPadOS 16.  It may not be systemic across all iPads but it is a big issue.  My sons iPad hasn't been able to play online for over a month.  I'm pretty technical and I've tried everything that narrows it down to a problem with Minecraft software and/or services.

I’m having the same problem as well. I’ve tried nearly everything to fix with no luck. 

Added a video; I've got a longer one (about 4 minutes) with multiple crashes including a few where I make it onto my realm for about 30ish seconds before crashing (where my friend made a sign that says "hi bug tracking team this is real i swear" - I'd need a gravestone if I didn't include that lol). Let me know if anyone reading this would like a google drive link to the longer video. After logging in (if I even get there), my skin is either Alex or Steve. Then it'll change to my actual skin, and then crashes after about 15-20 more seconds.

also to the dev who asked about the marketplace button earlier: yes it does load and I am able to view the Marketplace for around 3-4 seconds.

The game was crashing when the game is connected to the Internet on startup. I have an iPad Mini 3 (running iOS 12.5.7). The game was crashing prior to the 1.20.13 hotfix. Then it works as normal with 1.20.13. However, I opened the game and then crashed before startup. I tried to turn off the Internet before starting the game and it started then I turned on the internet. However, the Marketplace button never loads and it shows a weird code (I will attach the screenshot), and then it says “Invalid Session (Try Restarting the game)”.

As noted in MCPE-173883 signing out of the Microsoft account makes the app stable again in my case. However access to online features linked to a Microsoft account (e.g. minecoins, online games) is not available anymore.

This bug is preventing my 6 year old son from playing a game he loves! He only has an iPad. Latest iOS on 2019 hardware. Game crashes within 10 seconds when connected to the internet. Lots of storage space. He can play offline but can't join the Realm we have together. We've tried complete reinstalls to no avail. Please please help! 🙂 

I (my child) have been experiencing this issue since late March. Can currently reproduce with "iPad7,11"; iOS 16.5.1; Minecraft 1.20.13. If the Microsoft account is not signed in, then the app does not crash. Crash is typically within 20 seconds of seeing the main Minecraft menu screen. 

Same issue here. iPad 9th gen, 1.20.13. Looks exactly same as on attached videos. Crashes only when connected to the store. 

If I connect an iPad to my macOS using the wire this thing is always the last line in “minecraftpe” process before the crash. 

Not sure if related but every time this is the last message from the process.

Son facing same issue in 1.20.13 on his iPad.

Launching Minecraft with WiFi off, then turning WiFi on appears to allow some online usage.

Do not post comments, videos, etc. except if you have new information. This is to reduce clutter.

@zayood011, Minecraft is a commercial product, that I’ve bought for money. Realms subscription is also a paid product.

Both are unusable for me despite I paid for both.

So if you’re from the Mojang team, I’d greatly appreciate any help to get service that I’ve paid for working. Instead of guiding how to comment.

@Auzzz, This is a bug tracker. To discuss the issue you can find and chat with other community members on Discord or Reddit. If you want to discuss it with Mojang, you need to contact the Community Management team on Discord or their Twitter accounts. Comments here should provide new information for the developers, and workarounds are welcome. This report has an ADO number and is confirmed, so Mojang is probably working on this issue, and to remind you, there are a lot of issues to fix all at once.

Also, I am not from the Mojang Team. Mojang team members have a [Mojang] or [MCQA] Prefix.

Awesome. So let’s developers provide at least some workaround or something so I can get a service that I’m paying for. That was working and broken with a new release.

Something that sounds as a workaround to make it at least somewhat usable or due date to fix would be nice.

So some reaction beyond ADO number I believe is appropriate for a situation when paid and commercial product just stop working.

Update: The marketplace loads with graphics, but it still crashes. Turning off wifi and logging in doesn’t work, it still crashes after a bit

Same issue for me. My son is really bummed! 

I tried a using the Xbox app to login to my account then brought up the Minecraft app on my iPad. It didn’t crash right away but once I tried to get on a realms plus server or multiplayer game it crashed. Is this an issue with authenticating the account?

Having the same issue. App crashes on iPad Air 4th gen. Minecraft version 1.20.13.  Any resolution? 

I’ve found turning off wifi, loading minecaft & entering a world, pressing iPad home button and turning on wifi, then returning to minecaft and exiting the world is a temporary but working solution. If sound isn’t working after this process just press home and wait a few seconds before going back into minecaft. If it ever gives you the red title screen after re-enabling wifi, repeat the process as the app has restarted and will crash again. This process should allow access to realms/servers again, but the marketplace won’t always work. 

I am having the same issue on my son’s ipad. The issue does not happen without Internet and it does not happen if I sign in on a different device with his account or when with a different apple account. It first started happening after the purchase of item which resulted in a crash. 

If I were to guess I believe the game sees a pending purchase on the apple account for a consumable but it’s not sure what to do with it and crashes.

 The pasted log entry from Auzzz also suggests a similar issue.

I definitely remember running into a failed purchase issue immediately prior to having these issues. For a while there, every time I started the app, it would try to finish this sort of queued action, and it eventually seemed to go through properly. It’s happened before, too, but maybe this last instance was the cause of my crashes.

Tacking on to the purchase comments:  Around the same time, my child attempted to purchase "Minecraft Store Item 6" from the iOS App Store, but the purchase wasn't being reflected in Minecraft. So we requested and received an App Store refund for that purchase. The crashing issues seemed to occur shortly after that. I'm not sure what caused what though. (E.g. did the refund cause the crashing, or did the crashing cause the issue that prompted me to request a refund? Don't know.)

Same problem here - tried to buy something in the market-lace and the purchase seemed to go through at first, but then produced a failure message. Since then, Minecraft crashes a few seconds after opening the welcome screen. 

My son has the same issue and it also started from a failed marketplace transaction (buying missing minecoins to buy a mod). 

I can see from @Auzzz comment that the last message before the  crash is a related to a purchase they made recently.. Not sure if they faced an error when buying the minecoins and if the crash started after.

But I am very confident that it is related to this. @mitsuhiko makes a good point that it might be the Microsoft service trying to reconcile with apple on an incomplete purchase that doesn't exists anymore. 

Please Mojang fix this!!!

My son is able to play today normally (and hasn't been able to for months).  Not sure if this is a lucky session or if something was changed (he has tried several times before with the latest version 1.20.13)

Working here, too! In fact, when I loaded into the marketplace, it gave me the prompt for a previously uncompleted mine coin purchase. (I told it to finish, which it said it did, and then there were no coins, but I don't think I was actually owed any.)

In any event, it's working now. I don't know if it was the recent update or a backend change, but I hope the issue is solved for everyone in this thread.

It has not been fixed for my son yet. It continues to crash upon startup. 

Minecraft v1.20.15 seems to have fixed the errors we were experiencing. The app does not close shortly after startup. I'm able to navigate the Marketplace. Good times. If you're still experiencing the error, maybe check which version you're running (found on the bottom right corner of the Minecraft main menu).

When I entered the Marketplace initially, I saw the "Incomplete Minecoin Purchase - Someone started a purchase with the billing account on this device. Would you like to complete the purchase with this account?" prompt, I selected "OK", and was able to access the Marketplace. I actually got the prompt twice - presumably once for each of the 2 failed-and-refunded App Store purchases I made back in March. It looks like I might've received MineCoins even though the purchase was refunded, but I could be mistaken. If so, at least it would be an error in my favor.
