"Unable to connect to world. The world is no longer available to join" when trying to join world

My friend is trying to play a multiplayer world with me. He is hosting it from his Nintendo switch and I am trying to join from my PC (win 11), but when I try to join I receive the error "Cannot connect to world, world is no longer available to join". This never happened before 1.20.32 and we have checked microsoft account settings, internet connection, making sure we are on the same version, practically everything. But the bug keeps happening.
