Started collection of all the pottery shreds. Completed 2 trail ruins a few months ago, returned to complete the sherd collection, but cannot find trail ruins. I have used a seed map for finding structures and can verify coordinates, including the 2 done previously, which are still existing. I have gone to the location of 5 different trail ruin locations and have not been able to find the ruins. I have experience in locating them from a previous realm, so i am certain that something happened that no longer creates the ruins.

Seed #4121602115575615327. The ruins that I explored a couple months ago were located at -920,-248 & 696, 1864. Other expected locations that were absent of ruins were located at 2008,6136 & 808, 2776 & 6120, 2328 & 2536, 2312 & 5032, 2360 & 2984, 2392. I found surface indications of terracotta blocks on the original 2 sites, but none on the later sites. I dug down in a 30X30 block square with the location in the center on three sites and to a depth of 30 blocks with no sign of ruins. The original sites surface indications were typically offset by at least 10 blocks, but the location contained the expected dirt and gravel blocks, so finding the ruins was not difficult. I did not create an additional world with the same seed number because I did not want to compromise my existing worl. If you think that it is safe, and would like me to do so, I will. Just let me know.
Yes, it should be perfectly safe to create a new world with the same seed. You can use Creative / Spectator mode to fly around to the various locations and look for ruins.
Created new world to search for trail ruins with the following results:
Site #1
Map location 2024, 2344
Closest ruin location 1952, 2352
Actual location did not have a surface marker indicating there was a buried ruin.
Site #2
Map location 808, 2776
Closest ruin location 288, 3584
The separation between the map location and the actual location was enormous.
Site #3
Map location 2008, 6136
Closest ruin location 2032, 6096
Actual location was not far from map location, with some digging it could have been found.
There were other sites that I may check later, but this is what I have found thus far. I should be able to find the shards I need to finish my pottery collection.

If you create a new local world with the same seed, do Trail Ruins appear at the expected locations?
What is the world seed and locations you are searching? (Please post into the Description or comment, not as a screenshot, so it can be copied for testing)
Did you dig down at the expected locations? It may be you are experiencing MCPE-170027.
If the chunks were already generated in a previous version before Trail Ruins existed, they won't typically regenerate, so you may need to search areas that have not previously been explored.
