Update Issue

so basically, no matter what i do i cant get minecraft to update, ive tried reinstalling everything, trying to update through microsoft files and pretty much every way it can be "solved" but the update option dont come up where it would usually say play because when an update is dropped, the green button in minecraft launcher that should say play would say update right? but it doesnt. it just says play and loads 1.20.73 ive tried downloading previews, switching back, nothing helps please fix (also i own minecraft bedrock and java throught buying it and game pass)
