Torch placing bug

When I was mining and tried to place a torch on the ground, it instead placed on the side of either one of the blocks beside it. I tried it in creative and it still happened. It also happens when using split touch controls. (Had this issue with my iPhone 4S and iPad 1st gen).
What I expected to happen was...:

I thought the torch would place on the ground like it usually would.
What actually happened was...:

The torch popped onto the side of one of the blocks.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Just by placing a torch on the ground beside a solid block.
