When going into the friends tab while a lan game is active shows you have friends online. However if you do not have game pass it will not show the lan game. To replicate this simply get an Xbox console without game pass and start an lan game on another system.
Side note: the affects versions tab is non applicable due to the fact that it affects all versions.
