villagers do not farm any crops. To recreate, enter any village, destroy a few crops and observe.
Also, they do not pick up any items, such as seeds, bread, wheat etc. Though, im unsure as to whether or not this has actually been implemented as a game mechanic.

Because I have done some testing and have seen villagers farm/pick up food in 1.0.0.0 (beta build 3)
