blank green screen when trying to login to xbox/realms from Minecraft PE android

Tablet is a Google Nexus

When we try to sign in to xbox so we can use Realms, it goes to a green screen and nothing loads - the green screen is blank except for the minecraft logo and title at the top of the screen.

same thing happens from the Realm tab and sign in - blank green screen.

we can login from our iOS tablet so we know it's not the account. Some problem with the Android version of Minecraft PE
