Dear Minecraft Development Team,
As a dedicated Bedrock player and Realms subscriber, I want to highlight a growing problem: mob spawning and simulation distance in Realms are severely limiting one of the game’s most creative and rewarding systems — mob farms.
In Bedrock Realms, the simulation distance is capped at 4 chunks, and this restriction cripples mob spawning. Hostile mobs only spawn within a shortened simulation area, and even when a player is positioned optimally — at the correct height and location — spawns are scarce or non-existent due to how the engine handles spawn attempts, despawning, and mob caps in that small area.
Players on Java Edition have the freedom to build efficient farms with proper spacing, mob isolation, and distance-based mechanics. Bedrock Realms players, by contrast, are stuck trying to make technical builds inside a box — and the result is that most mob farms simply don’t work.
This wouldn’t sting as much if I weren’t paying monthly to play on Realms with my family. The platform is promoted as a stable multiplayer environment, but it’s currently offering broken or non-functional core mechanics for anyone who enjoys technical survival gameplay.
Please consider revamping mob spawning logic or raising the simulation distance cap for Realms. Alternatively, provide an option for Realms owners to configure this setting, so those of us who love building farms can actually use one of the game’s most powerful tools.
We’re not asking for shortcuts. We’re asking to play the game we love — with the mechanics that make it one of the best games that has ever been made.
Sincerely,
Chris
