Why is there an arrow on the crossbow in the inventory when there's actually no arrow on it?

Steps to reproduce the issue:

1 In Creative mode, pull the crossbow and then switch to Survival mode.

2 Shoot the arrow pulled in Creative mode, then switch back to Creative mode.
Expected result

The crossbow in the inventory has no arrow.

Actual result:

The crossbow in the inventory shows an arrow, but reverts to the no-arrow icon after being picked up.
