After my ghastling became a happy ghast it started to lag the area around it. At first I thought I was the amount of chunks and my vibrant visual settings but they had no effect on stopping the lag. It was only when I moved my ghast to decrease the mob count that it stopped lagging. I left the ghast in a field with no mobs and 10 minutes later that area is lagging badly.
edit it seems to have not lag when is on a lead
