Severe performance drop on PS4 using Vibrant Visuals in 1.21.90 compared to previous version

Since the official release of Minecraft Bedrock version 1.21.90, the game performance on PlayStation 4 has dropped significantly when using the new built-in Vibrant Visuals graphics. Even with the settings at the lowest and render distance set to 12 chunks or lower, the game experiences heavy lag, low frame rates, and stuttering — similar to the feeling of playing on a high-latency multiplayer server.

This issue did not exist in the previous version (1.21.82), where the Vibrant Visuals experiment was still optional. In that version, I was able to use high-end shaders like Prizma, LunaC, or Luminous Dreams with 24 chunks of render distance and mid-to-high graphics settings while maintaining a stable 60 FPS.

Now, even without using any custom shaders and just the default Vibrant Visuals at the minimum setting, performance is much worse than before.

It seems that Vibrant Visuals is now fully integrated into the graphics engine and cannot be completely disabled, which may be causing excessive GPU load or memory usage on consoles. This is making the game barely playable on PS4, even in single-player.

Please investigate this performance regression on consoles.

Minecraft Bedrock Windows version experiences the same issue. Minecraft would slowly eat up memory and stay at 100% the whole time, causing MASSIVE lag and stutter.

A fix for me was to reset video settings and turn on “Allow in-game Graphics Mode Switching” and set FPS limit to 60.
