Major Lag/Delay when performing actions

Playing a Survival world there will randomly be major lag/delay when performing actions like breaking blocks, eating, sleeping. I eat food but it will not register until about 20 seconds later. Same with blocks, and when I break them, they will slowly float to the ground in slow motion. Sometimes it takes several times interacting with the bed for it to register to sleep.
