When Me Or My friend are near the base we get this random lag that makes mobs and projectiles really slow, it also affects the eating. I see another report blaming the happy ghasts which could be the problem as it seems to have gotten worse with the more we have. To recreate I guess have some happy ghasts around? We have them leashed and wearing their Harnesses.
