I had tamed a horse and proceeded to equip it with armor as well as name it. Today this horse suddenly disappeared without any death message to indicate that it no longer exists in the game. /testfor and /tp commands could not identify it by name - returning “No targets matched selector” - they did work with my happy ghast which is also named and harnessed. I looked around and I saw some older bug reports to that effect, but these were marked “resolved.”
Anyway, finding nothing about this I assumed the horse did, in fact, die (despite this being very unlikely) and I just somehow missed its death announcement. I then proceeded to name a new horse with the same name. Being paranoid about losing a second horse in a similar manner I decided to periodically run a /testfor command to make sure it has not disappeared as well. To my incredible surprise the old horse was found by the command. I don’t know where it was but I teleported both horses to me using their entity name and the old horse was found exactly as it was lost, with its saddle, armor, and name (of course).
I do not know what triggered this, but I did confirm at first that it no longer existed in my world via these commands, even teleporting myself well away to make sure these commands work from very far (testing with the happy ghast). I tried to check using NBT but I’m too unfamiliar with these tags to have done so.
The exact syntax I used for these commands were:
/testfor @e[name=<name>]
and
/tp @e[name=<name>]
I could not find a similar report to this, I hope this is not a duplicate.
