Version:
Minecraft Bedrock Edition v1.21.93
(Platform: Mobile/Android, but likely affects all Bedrock platforms)
Summary:
After updating to Bedrock v1.21.93, grass plants (short/tall) now frequently generate on sand blocks, and seagrass has been observed generating in non-ocean biomes, including swamps — over 500 blocks away from the nearest ocean biome.
The grass in Sand was rare in previous versions, but is now consistently and commonly reproducible.
The seagrass is 1 case I found.
Steps to Reproduce:
For sea grass:
1. Create a world with seed 3284072231067446220.
2. Teleport to coordinates 3486, 70, -1083.
3. Observe seagrass growing in a swamp biome with no ocean biome within ~500 blocks.
For sand: Explore newly generated terrain and observe that grass and tall grass commonly appear on top of sand blocks, especially in desert or beach border areas.
Expected Behavior:
Grass and tall grass should only generate on dirt-like blocks (grass_block, dirt, podzol, etc.).
Seagrass should only generate within valid ocean biome blocks.
Water should not be blocked by plants like seagrass in open flow areas.
Actual Behavior:
Tall and short Grass appears commonly on sand blocks.
Seagrass generates in swamps with no nearby ocean biome.
Seagrass prevents water flow like a solid block.
This behavior began with v1.21.93 and was not present or very rare in earlier versions (e.g., v1.21.92).
Suspected Cause:
Decorators (like grass and seagrass) are now being placed before the final terrain surface pass, allowing sand to overwrite the block beneath without removing the plant.
This suggests a mis-ordering of feature placement passes, likely introduced during the chunk loading and generation tweaks in v1.21.93.
Notes:
This is not a biome blending issue. Verified biome is Swamp using external tools. Reproduced in multiple new worlds on v1.21.93. The issue appears widespread and consistent.
Grass generating on sand is being tracked at MCPE-102355. Seagrass generating in non-ocean biomes is not a bug, nor is it new behavior. It has been like this since Update Aquatic.
