Spring To Life Made High Ping Unplayable

Ever since 1.21.70 Spring To Life update, a 260 ping to a Bedrock Dedicated Server makes the game unplayable. This is on a server that was unchanged before and after the update. It is still the case with the current 1.21.94 version.

Reproduce:

Play from Australia on a server located in USA or vice versa. Play on a server while using a VPN with 260+ ping.

Expected Result:

  • Moving while holding the place button should allow more than two blocks to be placed continuously.

  • Individually placing blocks while bridging should place blocks that can be stood upon instead of appearing to exist, then disappearing a second later.

  • Pressing a stone or wooden button to activate an iron door, then walking through the door should not result in the player being thrown backwards or forwards.

  • Mining stone with a haste 2 beacon and an efficiency 5 pickaxe should result in blocks breaking and not temporarily returning.

Actual Result:

  • After placing two (sometimes three) blocks, further blocks become ghost blocks until the number in the inventory is updated. This happens whether you click and place blocks individually, or you hold the right mouse button and move, placing the blocks.

  • Pressing a button to activate an iron door, then walking through the door causes the player to be often violently thrown backwards, sometimes forwards through the door. This happens inconsistently. If you push up against the door and press the button, you can often get through the door.

  • Instamining blocks caused them to temporarily reappear as solid blocks that you couldn’t walk through, then they’d disappear.

I have tried on different servers with different amounts of people, including a new, pure vanilla server that had just been restarted and I was the only player immediately after the restart. I didn’t have any resource packs loaded. If the server had a low ping (54ms) these issues did not appear. I changed the location of the server to somewhere with a higher ping (260ms) and the issues all appeared. Then they disappeared when I moved the server back to a different location that had a low ping.

I have a reasonably fast internet connection (230 Mbps up, 24 Mbps down) with a good PC & graphics card. While there was noticeable lag on the server for the last 2 years I’ve been playing on it, I was at least able to speed bridge, walk through doors and run while placing down blocks.

These issues only appeared immediately after the server updated to 1.21.70 and are unchanged since. They occur for other players too who have a similar ping. They also occur on newly setup servers with a brand new world, if that server also has a higher ping.
