Minecraft does not pause if you have not linked a Nintendo Account to minecraft.

The game does not pause when enterering the pause menu if you do not have a Nintendo Account linked currently. The “Game is Paused” message will not appear and the game does not pause, as if the pausing update never happened. This means you are required to keep a constant interenet connection to be able pause. I do not know how much of this is related to Minecraft, and how much is Nintendo’s problem.

A Nintendo Account will link automatically when first launching Minecraft if you have done it before, but will disconnect if the console is put to sleep, the screen times out, or if you ever minimise Minecraft using the home menu.

Once this has happened, the game will eventually refuse to pause again. This can take a few seconds or a few minutes. But, once it does, you must now save and quit to go back to the main menu and recconect your Nintendo Account for the game to start pausing again. If a Nintendo Account cannot connect when launching the game, ie you have no wifi at that time, the game will also refuse to pause straight away.

This is also a problem for anyone without a Nintendo Account, as then you do not have a way to pause the game at all. If you select the “Play Offline” option, the game will still not pause, as you do not have an account.

I hope this can be fixed, so that having a Nintendo Account connected is not a requirement for pausing the game.

Edit: Through more testing, sometimes, it has also required signing into a Microsoft Account after the Nintendo Account before the game will start pausing again, though i am not sure when/why this will happen.

I did not send clips originally because it was not working yesterday, it can be touch and go if it will send them to your phone or not. Anyway, i have it working now (i apologise for the low resolution, a switch does not take very good clips and they are limited to 30s only)

I learned more about this bug while getting the clips, so to be more acurate than my original post, this is what happens:

It will depend on how you launched the game. If you launch the game in airplane mode/with no wifi, it will fail to connect to a nintendo account and will never pause.

If you launch it it with wifi, and let the account connect, it will stay pausing, even if you disconnect the nintendo account through minimising the game etc as i mentioned before.

If you connect the game to wifi after launching with none, it still will not pause even if you connect a nintendo account in the main menu like it says to. You can get around this by connecting a microsoft account after, which will make pausing happen again. If you cannot do that, you have to close the game and restart with wifi so the nintendo account will connect “correctly”.

Lastly, i have not found a way to get the game to pause for a profile with no nintendo account made/linked. They will always be stuck not pausing even if wifi is connected when launching, as no nintendo account has connected.

Clip 1: Launching the game with no wifi, then starting a world. Game does not pause.

Clip 2: Launching the game with wifi connected, then starting a world. Game pauses.

Clip 3: Launching the game with wifi connected, on a profile with no nintendo account linked. Game does not pause.

I forgot to mention, this was recorded on a Nintendo Switch 2 as it was what i had nearby, but i have ecountered and tested this on a Nintendo Switch with the same results.

Ok, i have checked that report and there are no fixes for this other than have wifi when launching, which is why i reported it. I came across it when trying to pause and not having wifi. I did not see this report, i was searching for nintendo switch specific reports so that is probably why. The nintendo switch must clear the cache on each game close as it will happen every single time when launching compared to only after manually clearing the cache on mobile. Thank you and i hope this bug can be fixed
