Half of items in inventory deleted upon death in the nether

While I was flying through the nether I hit a wall and died, on the death screen I saw that exactly half my items disappeared the second I died. So I tried exiting Minecraft to fix the issue but that didn’t work, then I tried restarting my Nintendo Switch but nothing worked. I tried doing the bug again and it kept doing it, but it doesn't do that in the Overworld or the End.
