Rails Won't Connect Properly

When attempting to place a second rail system adjacent to a first, occasionally the new rails will connect to the existing rails instead of continuing the new rails, breaking the first rail. This occurred in 4 (apparently random) locations along a length of 196 rails mostly down a spiraling mineshaft. Video available.
