A chunk disapeared with my base

When I came back from the nether, it was my hardcore world. I came to my base and in place of my huge loot room, there was a huge hole through bedrock. No it was not multiplayer or realm. I checked and it turned out a whole chunk disappeared. Is it because of the over 40 chests all full of items, or something like a bug or Herobrine??!!!
