Blocks do not drop items when destroyed

Whenever any blocks are mined/broken, whether using fist, tool, or other means, they disappear without dropping a retrievable item in my world. I tried updating the game, restarting the device, and even stopped playing for a number of months with the hope that the issue would resolve itself but to no avail. When other worlds are loaded this issue does not appear.
