When playing on an online multiplayer server, Minecraft takes up a lot mor RAM than it should, causing severe lag that makes the game unplayable.
Steps to recreate:
Open Minecraft
Go to Servers tab
Join a server
Use Task Manager to check RAM
It is not fully consistent, but it will usually result in multiple gigabytes of RAM. The attached file shows a screenshot taken from Task Manager, and shows Minecraft taking up 12,575 MB (12.5 GB) of RAM.
