After updating to Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.21.120 on Windows 11 with an NVIDIA RTX 4060, the game no longer uses the GPU and performance drops to ~5 FPS.
Details:
Task Manager shows 0% GPU usage, while CPU and memory are very high.
The in-game toggle for “Improved Input Response” is greyed out and cannot be turned off.
Reinstalling Minecraft, resetting the app, reinstalling drivers, forcing High-Performance GPU in Windows, lowering video settings — none of these fixes work.
Other 3D applications and games on this PC use the RTX 4060 normally.
Steps to Reproduce:
Update Minecraft to 1.21.120 (latest build).
Launch Minecraft Bedrock on a Windows 11 PC with RTX 40-series GPU.
Open any world or create a new one.
Observe extremely low FPS and GPU usage in Task Manager.
Expected Result:
Minecraft should use the RTX GPU for rendering and run at normal FPS (~120+ depending on settings).
Actual Result:
Game is forced into software/WARP rendering.
Performance is unplayable.
The user has no way to disable “Improved Input Response”, which is the root cause.
System Info:
Windows 11 64-bit (fully updated)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (latest Game Ready Driver)
CPU: [Insert your CPU model]
Notes:
Problem began immediately with update 1.21.120.
Verified that all local fixes fail (driver reinstall, reset, GPU force, video setting changes).
This is a blocking issue for RTX 40-series users, effectively preventing GPU usage.
Do you have Vibrant Visuals enabled in Settings > Video? If so, you need to disable it, as it prevents Improved Input Response from being disabled.
If Improved Input Response is still grayed out, you will need to disable it in options.txt.
Here is how to do that:
Close Minecraft
Press Win + R
Copy and paste the following:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Minecraft Bedrock\UsersOpen the folder with a bunch of numbers
Go to
games/com.mojang/minecraftpeOpen the options.txt file
Locate
ctrl_improvedInputResponseChange its value from 1 to 0
Save your changes and reopen Minecraft
