Minecraft, even idling in menus on a brand-new local world, will consume all available system memory. It seems to leak about 40mb/sec. As expected, game performance is impacted. It takes several minutes after closing the application for it to completely relinquish the memory and end the process. I used a fresh installation of Minecraft (installed through the launcher) with no add-ons installed.
