Minecraft Bedrock Bug Report – Split-Screen Player 2 Inventory Loss After Update 1.21.130
Summary
Since updating to Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.130 on Xbox, the second local split-screen player consistently loads into the host world with reset player data, including:
Respawning at the world’s default spawn point (not their bed or last location).
A completely empty inventory and no retained XP.
No death screen, no dropped items, and no possibility of recovering previously held items.
This occurs even when the player did not die, log out improperly, or close the game unexpectedly.
Steps to Reproduce
On Xbox, create or open an existing world using Player 1 (world owner).
Once Player 1 loads in, join as Player 2 via local split-screen (Press Start → Join).
Player 2 loads into the world.
Observe Player 2’s spawn point and inventory.
Expected Result
Player 2 should:
Load at their last known location or assigned bed spawn.
Retain their full inventory, armor, XP, and previously saved player data.
Have access to dropped items if they actually died.
Actual Result
Player 2 is treated as a new player:
Spawns at the world’s original spawn point.
Inventory, armor, tools, and XP are completely wiped.
No death message appears.
No dropped items exist anywhere in the world.
The previous session’s player data is not loaded at all.
This results in permanent loss of all items carried by Player 2.
Frequency
Occurs every time Player 2 joins local split-screen after updating to version 1.21.130.
Platform
Platform: Xbox (Series X/S)
Game Version: Minecraft Bedrock 1.21.130
Mode: Local split-screen multiplayer
World Type: Survival (hosted by Player 1’s profile)
Additional Notes / Technical Context
This issue appears to stem from Player 2’s stored playerdata (.dat) file not being loaded correctly when joining split-screen.
When the game fails to load Player 2’s profile data, it initializes a new one, causing the inventory reset and default spawn behavior.
The problem aligns with existing reports such as MCPE-179105, MCPE-178732, and MCPE-179218, where split-screen players lose saved data or respawn incorrectly.
The issue did not occur prior to updates in the 1.21.1xx range.
Impact
This bug causes irreversible item loss for secondary players in local co-op sessions and makes split-screen play unreliable or unusable for households with multiple players.
