minecraftpe hanging shortly after launch on iPadOS 18.6.2 (happening every try on this iPad)

On my son’s iPad, every time he launches Minecraft, it hangs shortly after displaying the first menu screen. The spinning progress icon freezes as well as the rest of the display. It says “logging into your Microsoft account” but it’s not clear whether that’s actually the cause of the hang.

This started happening for his iPad with the 1.21.130 update. He tried with the same version on an iPhone also at 18.6.2 but did not see the same hang.
