Friend does not appear in list after adding

Today I was ready to play with my friend since we are both bedrock and i workerd on a server I have been working on for 4 months. I called him up and told him “ Get on man it's done “ so we both got online but something was rong. Our friend lists didn't had each other so. I added him he added me but when I checked agion it didn't show an extra person in the list so we tried multiple times but it didn't work so we had out day ruined.

Pls fix this minecraft I want to impress my friend of the hard work I did on my server
