Severe performance degradation occurs when riding a boat on Nintendo Switch since the December 2025 update. The game freezes, chunks stop loading, and the world fails to render, especially near kelp.

Since the December 2025 update, Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Nintendo Switch becomes nearly unplayable when riding a boat. The issue occurs in all worlds tested, both signed in and signed out of a Microsoft account.
While in a boat:
• The game frequently freezes for several seconds
• Chunks stop loading, leaving voids or half‑rendered terrain
• The camera stutters and movement becomes erratic
• The world may fail to render entirely ahead of the player
• Approaching kelp causes the game to lock up completely
• Reducing render distance or restarting the game only temporarily reduces severity, but does not fix the issue
This behavior did not occur before the December 2025 update.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Nintendo Switch

  2. Enter any world (new or existing)

  3. Place a boat in water

  4. Begin riding the boat

  5. Travel through ocean biomes, especially where kelp is present

Observed Result
• Game freezes intermittently
• Chunks fail to load
• Camera stutters
• World stops rendering
• Severe lockups when kelp is in view

Expected Result
• Smooth boat travel with normal chunk loading
• No freezing, stuttering, or rendering failures

Platform
• Nintendo Switch
• Occurs in both docked and handheld mode
• Affects latest version as of December 2025 onward

Additional Notes
• Issue reproduced in multiple worlds
• Occurs whether logged in or logged out of Microsoft account
• Reducing render distance delays symptoms but does not resolve them
