Items Duplicating When Logging Off

I was playing multiplayer with some of my friends, and I died in the end. I asked my friend to grab my netherite armor and elytra, which they did, but only right before I closed the game. The next time I logged in, they said that my armor and sword had been duplicated; one set in their inventory and the other on the ground still.
