A minecart can influence the motion of surrounding minecarts even without direct contact.

In general, when another minecart is present within a distance of approximately two to three blocks, the behavior changes. In earlier, properly functioning versions, the presence of another minecart did not alter this behavior.

When no other minecart is present, or in previous versions, the minecart accelerates on slopes and moves forward.(movie01)
