Since the Minecraft 1.26 update on PS5, 3-player and 4-player split-screen no longer works when connecting to a Bedrock Dedicated Server. This worked correctly before 1.26.
Steps to reproduce:
Connect to a Bedrock Dedicated Server from PS5 with 2 controllers (split-screen) — works fine
Add a 3rd controller/player to split-screen and attempt to join the same server — fails with "communication limitations" error
Expected behaviour: 3rd and 4th split-screen players join the server as they did before 1.26.
Actual behaviour: The 3rd player is rejected. The server log shows no connection attempt from the 3rd player at all — the PS5 client is blocking the connection before any packet is sent to the server.
Additional notes:
Split-screen on local worlds still works fine with 3-4 players
3rd player can join as player 1 or 2 without issue — it is specifically the 3rd split-screen slot to an external server that fails
Server is running with
online-mode=false— does not resolve the issueServer BDS version 1.26.14.1 on Ubuntu Linux
This is a regression — was working on 1.21.x
